Abstract

Objective: To study factors influencing self-management behaviors amongacute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients including perceived health status,self-efficacy, family support and depression. Method: In this predictivestudy, the sample was 155 AMI patients who were followed up at theoutpatient department of Rayong hospital, Prapokklao Chantaburi hospitaland Buddhasothorn hospital (Chacherngsao). They were selected byproportionate stratified random sampling method from October toDecember, 2013. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to test therelationships. Results: The overall self-management behaviors score ofparticipant was at a moderate level (M = 59.10, SD = 8.27). Consideringsubcategories of self-management behaviors, the score of adherence tocare plan behavior was at a high level (M = 19.22, SD = 2.71), whereasother behavior scores were at moderate level. The perceived self-efficacyand family support significantly predicted self-management behaviors inAMI patients with a predicting power of 51 percent of variance explained (r= 0.51, P < 0.001) Conclusion: Perceived self-efficacy and family supportsignificantly predict self-management behaviors in acute myocardialinfarction patients.Keywords: perception of health, depression, perceived self-efficacy, familysupport, self-management behaviors, acute myocardialinfarction patients
