Nowadays, cultured fish arethreatened by many pathogens, especially bacteria and viruses. Vaccination isone of the most effective tools for protecting fish from these pathogens.Several strategies have been implemented to alleviate the damage and one of themost commonly used strategies against diseases is chemotherapy usingantibiotics. However, there is a serious concern regarding the over-utilizationof antibiotics, which can lead to deleterious damage to environment byupsetting the natural microbial population and can hasten the emergence ofantibiotic resistant pathogens. Moreover, antibiotics cannot be used against viralinfections. Therefore, one of the most promising techniques is vaccination. Thisreview summarizes current knowledge on types of fish vaccination againstinfectious diseases. Furthermore, advantages and limitation of vaccine use infish are described. Attempts to improve vaccine administration have mostlyfocused on disease protection.
