Prescribing Pattern and Treatment Outcomes of Glucosamine Sulfate

Abstract

Objective:Method: This prospective descriptive study included all patients treated for OA at Nopparatrajathanee hospital from April to June 2010. Data were collected by questionnaire retrieving information on diagnosis, prescribing pattern, usage, outcomes and side effects of GS, and concurrent analgesics use, among OA patients using GS for ≥ 1 month. Results: From 150 patients, their mean age was 64.10  department, for knee OA, and patients with CSMBS. Almost half of patients were prescribed a dose not recommended by manufacturer. GS use was safe and resulted in improved symptoms.  Conclusion: Most GS prescriptions were from orthopedic department, for knee OA, and patients with CSMBS.
