ความเป็นแม่และการเมืองเรื่องเพศสภาพในสิงคโปร์ ระหว่างทศวรรษ 1950-1980

Abstract

บทคัดย่อ ระหว่างทศวรรษ 1950 ถึงทศวรรษ 1980 รัฐบาลพรรคกิจประชาของสิงคโปร์ประกาศว่าจะดำเนินนโยบายสร้างประเทศอันปราศจากความไม่เท่าเทียมทางเพศ และให้ผู้หญิงมีโอกาสเข้าถึงการศึกษาและมีอาชีพการงาน พร้อมกับประกาศว่านี่คือ “ของขวัญ” ที่รัฐบาลตั้งใจมอบให้พลเมืองหญิงของสิงคโปร์ บทความนี้จะเสนอว่าการเมืองเรื่องเพศสภาพเช่นนี้เกิดขึ้นในบริบทการประกาศเอกราช การแยกตัวจากสหพันธรัฐมาเลเซีย และการสร้างชาติที่มุ่งหมายการพัฒนาทางเศรษฐกิจเป็นสำคัญ นโยบายของรัฐบาลพรรคกิจประชานำไปสู่การสร้างอุดมคติผู้หญิงที่มีความเป็นแม่เป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญขึ้นมาโดยมุ่งเน้นที่ผู้หญิงกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์จีนเป็นหลัก อุดมคติดังกล่าวสะท้อนถึงวิธีคิดแบบปิตาธิปไตยของรัฐและยึดโยงอยู่กับความคาดหวังต่อผู้หญิง 3 ประการ ได้แก่ (1) การเป็นผู้หญิงที่มีการศึกษาสูง (2) มีความสามารถและทักษะในการประกอบอาชีพและเป็นฟันเฟืองสำคัญให้กับระบบเศรษฐกิจ และ (3) เป็นแม่ที่ดีของเยาวชน คำสำคัญ: ลี กวน ยู, พรรคกิจประชา, การเมืองเรื่องเพศสภาพ, ความเป็นแม่, ปิตาธิปไตย, การสร้างชาติ   Abstract During the 1950s-1980s, the P.A.P. government declared to create a country without gender inequality and expand career and educational opportunities for women. The government attempts to demonstrate that the equal opportunity for education and employment are ‘gift’ for its female citizen. This article argue that the gender politics of the P.A.P. government proceeded under a context of the independence of  Singapore, the separation from the federation of Malaysia and the nation building context that aim to suit the economic priority. The government’s policies constructed the ideal of women which maintained a key concept of motherhood, especially focus on the Chinese Singaporean women. The ideal reflect a Confucian patriarchy mindset of the government that implicated with 3 expectations on women: 1) be a highly educated woman 2) be a productive contributor to the economy – have an ability to work and 3) be a wise mother for youth.
