Abstract

The Quit smoking for our child program is a smoking cessation program using parental concern about harmful effects of passive smoking on their child health as an inspiration to quit smoking. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of this program on smoking cessation. Forty-two male smokers were included in the Quit smoking for our child program. Mean age of the participants was 29.8 years old and mean duration of smoking was 12.2 years. After completing the program, smoking status and smoking behaviors were re-assessed by telephone interview. Smoking cessation rate was approximately 39% at 1 week and 1 month follow up. At 3 months follow up, smoking cessation rate was slightly declined to 38.2% and to 31.6% at 6 months follow up. In conclusion, the Quit smoking for our child program has potential to increase smoking cessation in short term.
