Abstract

Abstract

Objective: To determine pharmacy students’ attitudes on learning process

based on new drugs’ presentation model and to examine the learning

behavior of the students regarding to this model. Method: The subjects

were 94 pharmacy students at Srinakharinwirot University who registered

for Biopharmacy 5 course in the second semester of academic year 2011.

In this course, one learning process was the new drugs’ presentation model.

Self-administered questionnaire measuring attitudes toward this learning

model and learning behavior of the students was used. Data were analyzed

using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. Results: Most

students were female (81.9%). The majority was currently studying

Pharmaceutical Sciences major (70.2%), as opposed to the Pharmaceutical

Care major. The students had positive attitudes toward this learning

process. The mean score of attitudes on lecturers and friends (4.10  0.48)

was higher than course management (3.83  0.43) and learning resources

(3.38  0.49). The learning behavior of students were good (mean score of

2.39  0.21). There was no statistically significant difference between

gender and their major regarding attitudes and learning behavior of the

students (P < 0.05). The attitudes on learning process model significantly

predicted 31.1% of variance in the students’ learning behavior (P < 0.001).

Conclusion: The students had a good attitude on new drugs’ presentation

model and a good learning behavior. The lecturers and friends, course

management and learning resources were the important factors that helped

promote the students’ attitudes on this model.
