Abstract

Eutectics are mixtures of at least two compounds with a unique

property that such system has a lower melting temperature than that

of either constituent alone. This decrease in melting point can be

scrutinized profoundly from thermodynamics theory which suggests

that there is an increase in total entropy of the system. Furthermore,

such thermodynamic equation could be utilized to determine the

eutectic critical parameters such as eutectic point or eutectic

composition employing the data form differential scanning

calorimetric and hot stage microscope. With the increasing total

entropy, the solubility and permeability ability of eutectics are

enhanced apparently. Some liquid eutectics can be utilized as

solvent/co-solvent system, and biotransformation medium. Some

drawbacks of eutectics include formulary incompatibilities which may

affect stability or properties of the formula.
