ACTUAL AND DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS OF BASKETBALL REFEREES IN THE OPINIONS OF PLAYERS AND COACHES IN THE 40 THAILAND UNIVERSITY GAMES

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the actual and desired characteristics of basketballreferees in the opinions of players and coaches in the 40TH Thailand University Games 2013. There were4 aspects of the basketball referees which were personal characteristics, personality and humanrelationship, Knowledge of the regulations and rules of decision and ability to judge. The samplescomposed of 260 personal who were male players 110 female players 80 and coaches 70, by purposivesampling. The questionnaire constructed by the researcher was used to collect the data with reliabilityof 0.98. The data were analyzed by frequency and standard deviation.The results were as followed;1. The actual characteristics of basketball referees in the opinions of men players over allwere high level (xˉ= 3.86, S.D.= 0.53) and desired characteristics of basketball referees in the opinionsof men players over all were highest level (xˉ= 4.75, S.D.= 0.31)2. The actual characteristics of basketball referees in the opinions of women players over allwere high level (xˉ= 3.58, S.D.= 0.53) and desired characteristics of basketball referees in the opinionsof men players over all were high level (xˉ= 4.41, S.D.= 0.52)3. The actual characteristics of basketball referees in the opinions of coaches over all werehigh level (xˉ= 3.58, S.D.= 0.53) and desired characteristics of basketball referees in the opinions of menplayers over all were high level (xˉ= 4.76, S.D.= 0.37)
