Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) yoga course that meets students’ needs (2)knowledge and experience students gained from the course and (3) factors influenced learning yoga.Participants were 22 undergraduate students, (6 M, 16 F), ages 19-20 years, who took the yogacourse. Data were collected through class observation, interview, critical incident technique, anddocument analysis. A constant comparison was used to analyze data and triangulated across methods.Findings indicated 3 themes. First, contents that students most preferred were (1) yoga in the office (2)20 forms of Dantien-taichi from Dantien-Salee yoga style (3) basis yoga poses and pranayama thatcan be used in daily life. Second, knowledge and experience gained included (1) knowing how to doyoga poses and how to breathe correctly (2) modifying yoga and thamma principles for life (3)improving physical and mental health (increasing of flexibility, concentration, breathing and decreasingof body aces and pains) and (4) using yoga knowledge to take care of themselves. Third, factors thathad major impacted on learning yoga were (1) students and (2) a teacher and teaching strategies. Inconclusion, this yoga course included proper topics. However, the teacher should emphasize and focusmore on the 3 topics that students preferred since those were appropriated for student’s life in whichthey frequently sat on the chairs and worked with the computers as well as searched for informationfrom internet for several hours per day. Keywords : Yoga Course Undergraduate Students’ Needs
