Abstract

Professional Socialization: A Developmental Process of Professionalism in the Worklife Abstract   Professional socialization is a very important process for preaching and individual development before and during their profession as well as the stability of the profession. The objective of this article was to present an idea of professional socialization including research synthesis and a case study of an industrial product designer as a way to develop a professional socialization process leading to professionalism in a Thai context. By using the example of a case study for synthesis was a way to connect theoretical perspectives and empirical data in the study by using qualitative research. The result showed that the professional socialization process was divided into three phases: before their profession, during their profession, and the stability of profession; and each phase comprised a differential agent, content, and tactics. In addition, we found that professional identity consisted of 3 characteristics: 1) Personality characteristics such as observant curiosity, high knowledge, imagination, 2) Features of interpersonal relationships such as the ability to adapt and the ability to compromise, and 3) Features of work such as the ability to solve problems or the ability to manage.   Keywords: Professional Socialization, Professionalism, Worklife
