Abstract

Abstract   The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) to study and integrate the development of the public mind of juveniles with the development of public mind according to Buddhism, and 2) to establish a new knowledge about the model of Public Mind Development among the youths from a Buddhist Approach. There were three steps in the research methodology as follows. Content analysis on the behavior development model from the behavioral science texts, Psychology texts, Tipitaka and other relating texts and documents was undertaken. Interviews were conducted with 19 subject matter experts on Buddhism, Behavioral science, Psychology and volunteers with a public mind for their opinions. Apply Delphi technique to gather data from respondents within their domain of expertise. The compatibility of the conceptual model of Public Mind Development among the youths from a Buddhist approach and the empirical data were verified by using the quantitative research methodology. The simple sampling technique was applied to 540 students who were between 12 - 25 years old. The research used 16 questionnaires to collect data, which had a level of confidence between 0.610 - 0.964. The hypothesis testing was done by the LISREL program. The results of the study indicated that: 1) The development on public mind of juveniles according to Buddhism consists of direct and indirect factors. The direct factor is freewill itself, which effects the development of public mind according to Buddhism, with R2 = 0.62.While indirect factors that effect through freewill consist of external factors (physical development and moral development) and internal factors (emotional development and intellectual development). The combination of physical development, moral development and intellectual development effects freewill with R2 = 0.22.  2) The body of knowledge obtained from the research could be concluded in a model of Public Mind Development among the youths from a Buddhist approach called "4D Free will."   Keywords: Public Mind, Public Mind Development in Buddhist Approach
