Abstract
The Effect of a Physiotherapy Teaching Program Based on to Rosenstock’s Health Belief Model on Self-care and Exercise Behavior of Post Spinal Fusion Surgery Patients Abstract The objectives of this research were 1) to compare the self-care and exercise behaviors of patients after spinal fusion surgery in an experimental group between pre and posttests, 2) to compare the self-care and exercise behavior of patients after spinal fusion surgery between the treatment and control groups. The sample of this study consists of 30 patients after spinal fusion surgery. Assigned to an experimental group were 15 patients and a control group 15 patients. The experimental group was based on the Physiotherapy Teaching Program based on Rosenstock’s Health Belief Model, and the control group based on the physical therapy program for patients of post spinal fusion surgery. The research design of this study is pre-posttest control group design and included 3 analyses: before the program, immediately after the program, and 1 month after the program ended. Data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA repeated measures and a T-test for independent samples. According to the research hypotheses, the result shows that patients in the experimental group had better self-care and exercise behaviors after surgery than before, with statistical significance of (p<.05). In addition, patients in the experimental group had better self-care and exercise behaviors after surgery than the control group with a statistical significance of (p<.05).
