A Comparative Study of “Lao Liu The Caretaker” and “The Sentence”
Abstract
Abstract The Judgment and School Janitor Lao Liu are Thai and Chinese literature which possess characteristics of an era and significance of the social. The Protagonists in both literature works live in the low class society. They are school worker. Fag, in The Judgment, represents the traditional character. He is kind and helpfulness. After his father passed away, he has to take care his mental disorder stepmother. Abandoned by the merciless social, he brings alcohol to eliminate all his trouble and injustice he has faced. Finally, he is a victim of rumors. Lao Liu,in Lao Liu The Caretaker, lives in Chinese half feudal half coronial period. His low status in society causes him to sense disgrace from the surrounding people. But with his dauntless spirit, he strongly survives. This thesis reveals the two different characters, culture and spirit as well as social problems in different countries and eras. These two novels are valuable to study. In this thesis, the researcher raises some personal opinions, expecting that the analysis would be useful to study how meaning making can influence peoples’ lives.
