Abstract

Benveniste, a linguist born in France in 1960ûs, defines çenonciationé as theperformance of language by individual speakers in actual situations. The concept is derivedfrom the famous opposition çlangueé and çparoleé introduced by Saussure in early 1920s.The distinction between çenonciationé linguistics and pragmatic linguistics is based on theorigin and the areas of studies. çEnonciationé linguistics, originated from European neostructuralismgrammar and French language, focuses on three main areas of studies inconcrete utterances: shifters, deixis; modality and heterogeneous characteristics of aspeakerûs speech and reported speech.
