Abstract

The purpose of this study was, firstly to compare the learning achievement of studentswho studied this course with lecturer and Web-Based Instruction lesson and those with lecturerwithout Web-Based Instruction, and secondly to study studentsÕ opinions towards the Web-Based Instruction lesson. The study was carried out with third-year undergraduate students inthe Humanities Faculty of Srinakharinwirot University. The subject in this study included 40students who were divided by purposive sampling into two groups of twenty students: theexperimental group and the controlled one.The researcher developed the introduction to information retrieval lesson in the formof the Web-Based Instruction with efficiency at the rate of 80/80 and achievement tests forthis research. The experimental group studied these lessons with the lecturer and the controlledgroup studied the lesson without Web-Based Instruction. T-test was used in both groups.The study found that 1) there was no significant difference between these twogroups in the achievement and retention test scores, so the Web-Based Instruction can beused to replace the traditional teaching method and to increase retention test scores inspecific texts. 2) StudentsÕ satisfaction towards the Web-Based Instruction lesson on theintroduction to information retrieval was at a high level.
