Abstract
The objective of this study is to investigate pronunciation errors of liaison among1st year French major students of Faculty of Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University. Thestudents are asked to read sentences, and extracts from French literature. The studied datais collected two times: first before the training period to find out the errors the students usuallymade, then after nine hours of training period, to see if there are any improvement.The result shows that in every selected sequence of liaison the students make pronunciationerrors, and that the number of errors is considerably reduced after the training period.However, there are some errors that students still make such as çtrès followed by anadjectiveé, çêtre, avoir followed by a preposition or a participial verbal formé, someparticular cases of liaison obligatoire and liaison interdite and some sequences ofçdéterminant followed by a nouné.These errors occur from several factors such as influence of Thai pronunciation,confusion of h muet and h aspiré, ignorance of particular cases of liaison obligatoire andliaison interdite, inattention and non application of studied rules.In order to improve the pronunciation of liaison, two suggestions are offred: first,the attentive listening of the correct pronunciation of liaison, and then the reproduction ofthe exact same sound.Downloads
