Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the job of academic staff of the Facultyof Humanities, Srinakharinwirot University. The first step involved focus group discussion of sixparticipants who worked as the secretary or the assistant secretary of each department. Theresult showed that the tasks of academic staff of the Faculty of Humanities, SrinakharinwirotUniversity involved in-role and extra-role performance. The job specifications of these involvedjob specifications for academic work; for general work performance; and for both academicand general work performance. The supporting factors in carrying out the task included physicaland psychological factors. Most of the obstacles in carrying out the task involved workload,type of work and system for managing workload. The second step involved the use of aspecially designed questionnaire to survey the frequency and importance of performing eachtask, and the frequency and importance of employing each job specification. The participantsof the second step were those instructors teaching in academic year 2008, and not holdingany executive positions in the university. The result showed that they performed tasks at lowto high level of frequency and perceived tasks important at moderate to high level. Theyemployed job specifications at high level of frequency and perceived job specificationsimportant at high to highest level.
