(The development of a Learning Process about Sexuality in Thai Society)

 

Abstract

 

This research about “ The development  of a learning process about sexuality in Thai society “ is a part of the aforementioned strategy of The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security , focusing on educating children and youths to know how to prevent and solve  the problem of pre-mature pregnancy in teenagers. There were 2 main objectives in this study. Firstly, it aimed to study the effectiveness of a learning process about sex on “Stepping forwards with Conscience” in the aspects of body&mind changes, sex believe,difference thinkings touching, love and alternatives, refusal skills and how to avoid a risky situation leading to a sexual intercourse. Secondly, it aimed to investigate the relationships between teenagers’ attitudes towards sexual intercourse resulted from the mentioned learning process. The study is a Quasi-Experimental Research. The research tools were 8 teaching/learning  plans in the learning process about sex on “Stepping forwards with Conscience” : 1.Steps to be adolescent  2.What  people thinking about sex is true or false 3. How do male-female think about  4. Touching  5. Imagination about love no.1  6. Imagination about love no.2   7. Imagination about love no.3    8. Negativing skill and how to avoiding risk situations about sexual intercourse   and a set of attitude towards sexual intercourse scales. The learning process is based on “ The Experiential Learning ” The subjects were 110 Elementary Education 6  students, aged ranging from 10 to 12 years in Bangkok Metropolitan. They were divided into 2 groups : experimental and control groups. The data were then analyzed by independent-samples t-tests. It was found that firstly, on average, the students in the experimental group had posttest meanscore higher significantly than that of their pretest mean score at p=0.01. On average, the students in the experimental group had posttest mean score higher significantly than that of those in the control group at p = 0.01. Secondly, in general and in each aspect, there were relationships between the teenagers’ attitudes towards sexual intercourse resulted from the learning process about sex on “Stepping forwards with Conscience” and their learning process about sex behaviors on the risk of having a sexual intercourse among teenagers at p = 0.01.
